Backpacking Merit Badge - Scouts particpating in the Philmont Trek and the training beforehand may want to earn this Merit Badge. Scouts should contact a Merit Badge counselor right away so they can begin work on the Merit Badge during our training hikes.

Alternately, Scouts may want to work on the Hiking Merit Badge (cannot use the same hikes for both Merit Badges).  This is an Eagle merit badge (must earn one of Hiking/Swimming/Cycling).

Personal Equipment: Scouts should begin assembling their equipment for the trek, especially pack and boots to make sure they are comfortable and broken in.

Go to http://www.scouting.org/highadventure/philmont/hikers/personal.aspx for a full personal equipment list.
